Functional Behavior Analysis is a systematic method of identifying problem behaviors for youths. It is based upon the theory that, since youths communicate their intentions and needs through their behavior, albeit at times to destructive ends. Understanding their needs, the functions of these behaviors, and how to target specific interventions leads to improved functioning. This approach has successfully been used in outpatient and residential settings. This three-hour training will discuss how to thoroughly assess the youth, develop hypotheses and working theories about the youth’s behaviors to develop treatment plans, and identifying the correct interventions for the youth.

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Describe the methods of assessment for problem behaviors
  • Explain the five functions of behavior
  • Create treatment plans and interventions for youths
